NATIONAL ROAD VICTIMS REMEMBRANCE DAY
September 18, 1999
The second annual National Road Victims Remembrance Day was recognized on September 18th in Washington, DC. The threat of a hurricane kept many out-of-towners away, but it didn't keep the sun away, which shined brilliantly but mercifully upon us throughout the day. Soloist Cecelia Leavitt moved members of the audience to tears with her renditions of "My Heart Will Go On" and "I Will Remember You." Prayers were offered for all crash victims, and victims and their families delivered powerful, heartfelt speeches. Nearly 4,000 roses were placed on Pennsylvania Avenue -- the Road of Remembrance -- in front of the White House, in memory of crash victims.
